"Fair point." It was terrible! "Okay then, it's not a sign. But I'm still here to tell you that it's okay to not be working all the time." Which she had said a few times already, to be fair. "You're going to work yourself to death- not. Don't say that's impossible. You know what I mean."
Red Son raised an eyebrow as she tells him to not say it was impossible. "Good catch," he said. "I work hard, its how I am. I don't work all the time. Just...most," he said and shrugged. "I'm getting used to free time."
She preened a little. It was a good catch, wasn't it. She's onto you, Red Son. "At least you're aware, I guess. Just be careful - you might make them look good, but eye bags are terrible."
"That's what glamour is for," Red Son said. "I know how to look good even if I've been up a month. I had to do that once. Admittedly, it only took twenty minutes to set fire to that party, but the party goers were quite rude."
"We needed a potion that a demon lord wanted, it was my first foray into alchemy, mother had to get the ingredients, and I needed to figure out how to make the damned thing. We got the potion, went to a party of the demon lord to present it to hopefully get some magic scissors that were supposed to cut through anything, and then a bunch of demons hit on me while mother was trying to be diplomatic. I also looked about fifteen at the time, so you can imagine how charming those particular suitors were," Red Son said.
"It usually is at parties. I'm at least attempting to be diplomatic," Red Son said. His temper may be short and volatile, but also he had to deal with a lot of immortals who wanted to mock him and his mother, or worse, try and claim them at their own like some pretty trinket.
There's a reason Red Son made them a robot army as soon as he could.
"More or less. Plan B is if mother gets offended. We often skip plan B, but anyone who manages to get it regrets it immensely. If they survive. She's not as nice as me," Red Son said. Princess Iron Fan was not a merciful woman. "We did. We needed to move Wukong's staff. The thought was if we could cut it to ribbons, we could get it out of the way. Of course, the things broke on it," he said with a frustrated sigh.
"Don't piss off your mom. Also noted." Not that she had planned to anyway, but still. Good to know. "They broke?" So much for cutting through anything, apparently. "That seems excessive. Wukong must be powerful to have something like that."
"Wukong has only been outright beaten by beings who are part of the fabric of our universe," Red Son said. "Barring his youth, of course. But he's always been stupidly strong for no good reason."
There is a bark of laughter. "No. In fact, he's notably not one. He's a stone monkey, a celestial primate. One of four beings who don't fit in literally any other category. Somehow apart and separate from everything. He would be a lot easier to deal with if he was a god."
"Oh, one of those." Like Blayde Steel the trickster. Powerful and, so far as anyone knew, unkillable because his own absurd strength and abilities had made him a pain in the ass even for the gods. "You're making me sound like a villain now." A joke. But she was vaguely annoyed by the monkey she had never met.
"Yes. He only became apart of heaven's court by terrorizing literally everyone. He may not be able to kill the Jade Emperor or Buddha, but the amount of gods he could beat far outstripped the ones he could not," Red Son said with a roll of his eyes. "Even mother admits she couldn't beat him in an outright fight. Hurt him badly, but unfortunately not beat."
It would have made things a lot easier if she could.
"Seems a little ridiculous anyone should have that kind of power." Though if they used it for good that might be one thing. Then again, Blayde Steel technically did, but the definition of 'good' to an all powerful being really was up for debate sometimes. "Although I'm sure it would be great if you wanted to rule the world." Case and point Red Son's family.
"It is frankly ridiculous. And then he wanted more and more until it finally bit him and he had to go on his 'path of redemption,'" he said with a scoff. "He wanted to become the Jade Emperor. A foolish thing to pursue without even understanding what he does."
"He wanted to become a different unkillable being?" She asked. "What does he do - you don't have to give me a history lesson. I know I'm asking a lot of questions but your whole life and world is somehow weirder than mine and I'm literally an elf that got revived as a Fey."
"He literally keeps the fabric of reality together. No Jade Emperor, and reality falls apart at the seams. The only ones who might survive are those who have truly achieved nirvana. Otherwise, everything else is going to be wiped out," Red Son said. "Its not something one should just TRY to do. But there are those who are foolish to try. At least Wukong stopped. Others? Others haven't learned an ounce of sense."
"And its fine. I've studied a lot of this for years, just trying to find loopholes."
"Oh, yeah. Fuck with the person controlling the whole of reality, I'm sure there would be no repercussions for that." She rolled her eyes. "Who wants that responsibility anyway? Someone who wanted to change some things, I guess. But. Still." Not even worth it.
"You'd love the Lunari. They're a bunch of scholars. I just learned how to read, kind of," she see-sawed her hand, "while I was in Faerie. I don't exactly study."
"Exactly. People who want to change things. Or want to be assured that no one could ever tell them what to do," Red Son said. "Wukong is the latter. Others are the former. Convinced everything could be better if they just have the power. Unaware of just how much all that is for any one being."
"I like knowing things. I've always had a talent for information," he said. "...do you need help with learning how to read better?"

"Are you offering? You're already doing a lot for me, but I - I mean I'm not gonna say no, if you're willing."
